Welcome to the Climate, Hydrology, Ecosystem Nexus (CHEN) Research Group at Colorado State University

Our research aims to understand and better model terrestrial ecosystem carbon and water cycling under a multitude of global change factors. Currently, we are particularly interested in impacts of extreme climate events such as droughts and fires. We tackle important ecological questions and test hypotheses with multi-disciplinary tools, including ground-based  experiments and inventory data, remote sensing, statistical and process-based modeling, machine learning and AI. Our research approach emphasizes the integration of multi-scale processes.
